Ballet
From the age of five the children are taught a pre-school ballet syllabus.
This allows the children to progress smoothly from Dancin’ Dots through to the Junior Ballet class level. Pupils in Junior Ballet and above also follow the Cecchetti ballet syllabus from Pre-Primary level to Advanced.
“The Cecchetti method of Classical Ballet offers a complete and well structured system of training which caters for the small child through to the professional dancer and the future teacher. Enjoyment is of prime importance for a young child beginning to dance and the Class Examinations and Performance Awards provide ideal opportunities for those attending classes for recreational purposes on a once a week basis. For children wishing to study in greater depth, there are the more technically demanding Grade Examinations. In all the children’s work a steady build up and safe practice are of great importance” www.istd.org.uk.
Most children take an examination once every 12 months and we work on syllabus as well as show and display work during this time. The teaching staff use their professional judgment and experience to decide when a child should be entered for an examination. The Pre-Primary Exam is the first examination for the children and once they achieve this they can then progress on to another level.
