Classes are available for children from 5 years upwards in both these popular styles.
These classes focus initially on technique developed through fun exercises, moving onto the development of style and performance skills.
“Modern Theatre dance is a rhythmic dance style which originated in America before travelling to the rest of the world. It is often seen on the stages of musical productions and is known for its theatrical qualities. The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns which all need strength and flexibility. This is a highly energetic dance style” www.istd.org.uk.
We follow the ISTD modern theatre syllabus. The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing is one of the world’s leading dance examinations boards and children are entered for examinations from 5 years of age, when the teachers consider they have attained the necessary standard. The children also work on performances for shows and displays to develop their confidence and creativity.
