Tap continues to be a very popular style of dance with children and classes are available for children from 5 years upwards.
“This has evolved as an American dance form, popularised throughout the world, with debate about its origins coming from African dance, Irish dance and/or clog dancing. The dancer uses their feet to strike the floor, beating out different rhythms, with dancers wearing tap shoes which have small metal plates on the toe and heel to give the distinctive sound. Tap dance is a theatrical art form often seen on stage in musicals.” www.istd.org.uk
We follow the ISTD tap syllabus. The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing is one of the world’s leading dance examinations boards and children are entered for examinations from 5 years of age, when the teachers consider they have attained the necessary standard. The children also work on performances for shows and displays to develop their confidence and performance skills.
